On the Macintosh platform, all of the critical sound components are now native PowerPC code. This includes the mixer, sample rate converter, format converters, MACE 3:1 and 6:1 compression and decompressers. The sound input interrupt handler now uses native PowerPC code to boost performance during recording. These enhancements on Power Macintosh will let games and QuickTime movies play more smoothly and provide higher capture rates when recording digital video.
