Leopard Reference Library: Networking
AirPort is based on the IEEE 802.11 family of standards, which specify a through-the-air interface between a wireless device and a base station or between two wireless devices. AirPort is interoperable with PC-compatible wireless LANs that conform to the 802.11b standard and use DSSS (direct-sequence spread-spectrum) technology. Software developers can use the DNSServiceDiscovery API to allow their applications to provide easy discovery of networked services and devices.
