Based to a large degree on its UNIX technology-based foundation, Mac OS X supports a large range of open source scripting languages. In addition to supporting common shell scripts, Mac OS X includes many popular scripting languages, including Perl, Python, PHP, and Ruby. Additional scripting facilities for Mac OS X are available from various open source groups.
