Core Audio's Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) ensures that audio realtime performance on Mac OS X is free from latency and multichannel access issues. The HAL publishes timing data so that developers know exactly where their audio is. Game developers benefit from Apple's improvements to OpenAL.
