The capacity of the internal hard disk drive has been increased from 3.2 to 6 GB. The drive uses the Ultra IDE (integrated drive electronics) interface, which is also referred to as the Ultra ATA interface. The implementation of the ATA interface on the iBook is a subset of the ATA/IDE specification, ANSI proposal X3T10/0948D, Revision 2K (ATA-2).
The software that supports the internal hard disk is the similar to that in previous Macintosh PowerBook models with internal IDE drives and includes DMA support.
