Apple typically reserves 2048 bytes of NVRAM space for use by Macintosh firmware and system software, as shown in Table 12-1. Part of this allocation constitutes the 256 bytes of parameter RAM (PRAM) that all Macintosh computers have traditionally provided for use by Mac OS.
